Dashi’s last day of service was June 14, co-owner Oscar Hines confirmed to The Post and Courier. He did not comment further as to why the restaurant suddenly shut its doors. He said the Dashi Wine Bar and Emporium , located down the road on Rivers Avenue, will remain open. The wine bar opened last summer . On June 15, a message from the owner circulated on social media, with several employees sharing their own surprise and disappointment by the sudden news. “I wanted to let everyone know that we’ve decided to close the restaurant permanently and yesterday was our last day of service,” Hines wrote, expressing his appreciation to the staff. “I’ve enjoyed the opportunity and I’m absolutely devastated that we have to close.” Dashi, co-owned by Hines and chef Stephen Thompson, operated as a food truck for five years before opening the brick-and-mortar location in 2019. Despite not being located in a popular dining district, like the nearby Park Circle, regulars flocked to the orange and yellow painted building for Thai wings, burritos and pork belly ramen. Hines told The Post and Courier in July 2025 he was hopeful about the growing dining scene in the Remount Road area, leading him to open the nearby wine bar focused on bottles from Spain, Portugal and Central and South America. “It's a bet on the neighborhood, and I'm pretty optimistic about that,” he previously said.
