Shimla: Newly elected panchayat pradhans and up-pradhans across 11 of Himachal Pradesh's 12 districts were administered the oath of office and secrecy on Monday. The oath-taking ceremony for Kangra district will be held on June 18, where chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will administer the oath.In Shimla district, education minister Rohit Thakur administered the oath to the elected representatives in the presence of the chief minister at Peterhoff Hotel.During the event, Sukhu administered the anti-chitta (heroin) pledge and urged the elected representatives to actively participate in the fight against drug abuse. He called upon them to work towards creating ‘chitta-free panchayats' and a drug-free society.Congratulating the newly elected leaders, Sukhu emphasised that panchayats act as a crucial link between the govt and the people. He expressed confidence that they would work with dedication to promote development and ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes at the grassroots level.Sukhu also encouraged panchayat representatives to promote sports, education and cultural activities to steer youth away from drugs.
